Today in MATH we:
  • Handed in Problem of the week #1.
  • Got Problem of the week #2 - Due NEXT Friday.
  • Review square roots on the weekend.
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Did Science current events.
  • Had a quiz.
  • Handed in all of our check & reflects. You had LOTS of class time to do them, AND we went over all of the answers in class. You should have them done.
ALL THE REST:
  • You are in grade 9, you should be setting a good example. That means working hard & being respectful to EVERYONE in our classroom.
  • An independent learner REVIEWS for 15 minutes per subject each night....even when they have no other homework!

  • Talked about square roots.
  • Read mp9 pgs 8-11.
  • Do activity on mp9 pg 8. Due Friday.
  • Do #1-54 EVEN mp9 pg 11. Due Friday.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Reveiwed our check and reflects. You should all have complete answers in complete sentences!
  • Sia9 p 14 - how will you present your numbers? Design you presenation.
  • A picture is worth a thousand words!
ALL THE REST:
  • When you are given instructions and an assignment it is expected that you will work on it. If I am not there, the expectations are the same. You are in grade 9 now and independent learning is expected. To be successful in grade 9 you must be an independent learner. If you have questions ASK! Its what an independent learner does!

  • Did sia9, c&r p 15 #1-7 & 9. Don't forget to write down the question & answer in complete sentences.
  • Skill practice sia9 p13. What did your graph look like? Was somebody else's different?
  • Read, Understand & do notes: sia9 p16-19.
  • Do sia9, p19 #1-5.
All the Rest:
  • Science Current Events start on Friday, if it is your turn be prepared!

  • Worked on problem solving & making real world connections in Math.
  • Did mp9 pg. xv activites 1-5 DUE WEDNESDAY
  • Looked at Algebra - mp9 pg xvi, activites 1-3 DUE THURSDAY
  • Did you remember to hand in your similie?
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Wrote down our Guiding Questions for the Biological Diversity unit:
    1. What is Biological
      Diversity?
    2. How do living things pass their
      characteristics on to future generatrions and why is this
      important?
    3. What impact does Human activity have
      on Biological Diversity?
  • Went to the outdoor classroom & made a list of things we find in our ecosystem around the school. You should have at least 10-20 items on your list. Keep it in a safe place, we will use it later.
  • Read & understood sia9 p 8-15, omit p14. Made notes on these pages. DUE WEDNESDAY.

  • An independent learner finds out what they have missed & catches up!

Today in MATH we:
  • Wrote a Math Similie & put it on an index card: Math is like_________ because________.
  • Reviewed Mean, Median, Mode, & Range.
  • Finished our grade 8 Review.
  • Worked on mp9, Page xii, #1,2, 4, & 6 AND mp9 Page xiii, activities 1-4, DUE TUESDAY.
  • These are Problem Solving & Math Communication Activities. Understanding how to approach these types of questions is VERY important for being successful in math.
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Handed in our Biological Diversity title pages.
  • Had a homework check on our Section 1 vocabulary.
  • What does the word trend mean?
  • Studied a wolf population - sia9, Read pgs 4-6, complete the graph & answer the 3 questions on the back page of your graph. Use complete sentences.
All the Rest:
  • Reading in class: it is to help you get better, we are here to support each other and to help each other improve.
  • Class time: you are given lots of class time to complete your assignments. It is up to YOU to use it wisely.
  • Independent learners: use their time wisely & keep their notebooks organized.

Today in MATH we:
  • Had a homework check on Chapters 7 & 8
  • Did our Chapter 9 & 10 Grade 8 Review. Due MONDAY. Almost done!
  • Did problem of the week #1. It is due next Friday. When you and/or your group solve the problem, do not let others copy. This is cheating. You worked hard to solve it, keep it to yourself. Make sure you show your work!! This is more important than getting the right answer.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Listened to a Science Current Events example. Make sure you know if your turn is coming up!
  • Did our Lab Safety Quiz.
  • Worked on our Biological Diversity Title pages. Published copy Due MONDAY.
  • Did vocabulary for section 1, sia9 pgs 5-21. You must have at least 10 words, well organized with clear definitions. The definitions should be in your own words, and where appropriate should include a picture. Due MONDAY.

  • You are responsible for your textbooks, please take good care of them & don't lose them!
  • Use masking tape to put your name on your book. I have some if you would like.

Today in MATH we:

  • Did grade 8 review on Chapter 7 & 8, Measurement, Surface Area & Volume.
  • Use your AGENDA - it has LOTS of helpful formulas!
  • Chpater 7 & 8 review due on Friday.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Finished our lab safety notes from the textbook, sia9 p476-481.
  • Finished our lab safety handout from yesterday.
  • Started work on our Biological Diversity title pages.
  • Title Page Plan/Rough Draft Due Friday.
  • Final Draft of Title Page Due MONDAY.
  • Title page should include: At least 4 pictures, one from Each section of the Unit, the Unit Title, Your Name, Class, Date, a Boarder, Neatness & Spelling COUNT!
  • The back of your title page should have a question that you would like answered while we do this unit.
  • FRIDAY: LAB SAFETY QUIZ - be prepared, know your WHMIS symbols. Know what it means to have good lab conduct & practice.
