Today in MATH we:
  • Worked on our UNIT REVIEW for Statistics & Probability.
  • What is the PROBABILITY that we will have a unit final next week?
  • What is a Vowel? A Consonant? A prime number?
  • Do mp9 p356 #1-3. Did you pick up a sheet of graph paper to help you complete your review?

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Handed in our Ads.
  • Reviewed the Acids & Bases song! Love that song. Did you complete the worksheet that accompanies it?
  • Complete the vocabulary for section 1.3, there are 11 terms to define.
  • Try the Give it a Try sia9 p196.

ALL THE REST:

Today in MATH we:


  • Had a homework check on Misleading Statistics.
  • Talked about the probablity formula, did some examples.
  • What is a prime number? What is a consonant?
  • Completed questions using the probability formula. Handout 9.4 due Friday.
  • Talked about independent events, did some examples. What are independent events?
  • How do we calculate the probablity of two INDEPENDENT events happening at the same time?
  • Complete Handout 9.5 about independent events, due Monday.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Reviewed the NITROGEN CYCLE - see below.
  • Talked about acids & bases. What is the GREAT function the online textbook has?
  • Did a demonstration of a base neutralizing an acid.
  • Read sia9 p191, 193 (can you figure out figure 1.12?), & 195.
  • Complete the vocabulary for this section.
  • Learned the Acids & Bases song....what a GREAT song! Completed the hand out that goes with it. The lyrics in the song tell you alot of really useful information about acids & bases!
  • Your AD is due Tomorrow.
ALL THE REST:
  • Sports day is on FRIDAY - TOMORROW. Dress appropriately, bring a hat, sunblock, and a bottle of water.

Today in MATH we:
  • Talked about Misleading Statistics - what are they?
  • Defined all of the bold faced words on mp9 p340-341.
  • Completed activities #1-4 mp9 p 340-341. What did you learn about how statistics are used. Can they be used for good & evil?
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Took notes, clarified definitions.
  • What is the NITROGEN CYCLE? What is NITROGEN FIXATION?
  • What is COMBUSTION?
  • What reaction should you commit to memory?
  • You were given 5 factors that affect environmental chemicals, you need to define what they are.
  • Choose one of those factors and create an advertisement that explains HOW & WHY these factors affect chemicals. Due Friday.
ALL THE REST:
  • You don't have alot of homework tonight, you may not have any homework if you used your class time well. Hmmmmmm sounds like there is some time for REVIEW tonight.

  • Talked about LINES OF BEST FIT. What are they? What do we use them for?
  • Read mp9 p334, Did & handed in the Activity & Inquire p334 #1-5.
  • Define the words INTERPOLATE & EXTRAPOLATE.
  • Do mp9 p335 #1-4. You were given graph paper to help you do this.
  • You had class time, are you done?
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Wrote notes about pH & ppm. WHAT DO THEY MEAN? Make sure you DEFINE the words that were in bold & underlined in your notes.
  • Watched a clip about RoboCow - what did you learn about EXPOSURE to chemcicals?
  • Did questions about Erin Brockovich - you had 8 questions & should have handed them in.
  • Do the give it a try activity sia9 p183.
ALL THE REST:
  • Make sure you are staying up to date & using your class time wisely.
  • I can not DO the work FOR you. You must do the work yourself. If you are not doing your work, don't ask why your grade has dropped.

  • Read mp9 p332, drawing scatter plots.
  • Do mp9 p332 Activity #1-3, Inquire #1-6.
  • Do mp9 p333 #1-3, you were given graph paper to help you complete this work.
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Handed in our Environmental Chemistry title pages.
  • Finished watching the movie Erin Brockovich. How is this movie related to Environmental Chemistry?
  • What is meant by the terms ppm & pH?
ALL THE REST:
  • An independent learner is getting their notes in order to start review for the WHOLE YEAR.
  • An independent learner is reviewing for 15 minutes per subject each night.
  • SPORTS DAY has been re-scheduled to FRIDAY May 30th, weather permitting.

  • List as many ways you can think of that we use STATISTICS. You should have at least 20. Be specific.

Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Had our SPACE unit final - how did it go?
  • Handed in our Concept maps for Space.
  • Started our title pages for Environmental Chemistry (sia9 p178) - Due MONDAY.
  • Title pages should include: One picture from each section, a boarder, your name, class, date, & on the back you should have a question about the unit you would like to answer.

  • Come to class prepared.
  • Do NOT ask to go to your locker.
  • In case you have forgotten, you need to bring a PENCIL, an ERASER, a CALCULATOR, your TEXTBOOKS, and PAPER to write on.
  • Don't forget to bring any other materials you need for the day.
  • When you are in Math & Science you are to be working on Math & Science.
  • When you are in Humanities, you are to be working on Humanities.
  • Use your class time wisely, an independent learner does this & does not need to do their work in other classes.
  • An INDEPENDENT LEARNER does not need to be told this.

Today in MATH we:

  • Wrote our unit final for chapter 7, Shape & Space.
  • Handed in our cheat sheets that we made for our unit final. They are worth marks.
  • If you do not have your own calculator, you had better get one. This has been a course requirement since the begining of the year. I do NOT have any calculators left for you to use.
  • If you try to share a calculator on any test/quiz from now until the end of the year you will receive a zero. You have been warned of this consequence repeatedly.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Reviewed for our SPACE unit final tomorrow.
  • Worked on our Concept Maps, one for each section in the space unit....you should have 4 maps in total. You will hand these in.
  • DO sia9 p475 #28-34.

ALL THE REST:

  • Mr. Brash will try to summit Mt. Everest this week. Check out his blog, which camp is he at now? What is the altitiude? How high has he climbed? Almost at the top of the world!!

  • Created our Cheat Sheets for our unit final tomorrow.
  • Your sheet could include: formulas, pictures, and examples.
  • Shape and space: Perimeter, Area, Volume. Remember one is DISTANCE, one is 2D, and the other is 3D. What UNITS should you expect to find for each?
  • Review questions: mp9 p292 #1-21 ODD, p293 #22-28 EVEN.
  • Your geocommunities project should be completed.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Got our Space Magazines back. Well done, they will help you study for your unit final!
  • Went over some of the questions from our unit review. Do you have any more questions?
  • Started to make Concept Maps for each sections. We did an example together about space exploration. Four concept/mind maps are due on THURSDAY. You should have one map that represents each section.
ALL THE REST:
  • INDEPENDENT LEARNING!!!!
  • It is REVIEW time for the WHOLE year. How can we approach such a MONSTROUS task?
  • Check up on Mr. Brash. This is his big week. We wish him a safe & successful climb.

Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Worked on our Space Exploration Magazines. They are DUE today for 5 Bonus marks. Monday is the deadline. After Monday there will be late penalties applied to this project.
ALL THE REST:
  • We had an OPEN DAy for Current Events today. Only ONE person was prepared. This is very disappointing. These should be easy marks for you.
  • ELA Part A Exam is next WEDNESDAY. Do you know the exam day procedures? It is on the wall.....have a look.

Today in MATH we:
  • Had a "fast quiz". Do you UNDERSTAND how to calculate surface area & volume?
  • Do you UNDERSTAND which formulas to use?
  • Worked on our Geo-Communities projects. You should be completed the DATA calculations for PHASE 2. That means ALL of your booklet should be filled out.
  • You need to have your calculations verified/checked by a classmate, who will sign your booklet as a guarantee they are correct.
  • We will begin NET construction on MONDAY. Your completed community will be Due on THURSDAY.
  • Do you know where your money is?
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Worked on our Space exploration magazine.
  • You should be done tasks 8-9, and only have editing and polishing left to do.
  • You were given lots of class time, direction, and resources to complete your project, how close are you to being done? Are you pleased with the product?
  • Your Magazine is due tomorrow. However if you hand it in tomorrow, I will give you 5 bonus marks. If you choose to submit it on Monday I will not consider it late, but you will not be eligible for the bonus marks.

  • Exams are coming. How can you prepare? Hmmmm sound like a case for independent learning.

Today in MATH we:
  • Worked on our Geo-Communities.
  • The CORRECT formulas were on board today, did you get them copied down? If not get them from a buddy.
  • Are you done your PHASE 2 DATA calculations?
  • You need have your PHASE 2 DATA calculations CHECKED by a classmate BEFORE you begin your net construction. I should see "Checked by", & the name of the person who checked them for you. It should be somebody who is NOT in your group.
  • Net construction should begin on Friday.
  • REMINDER: Quiz on Thursday. Five questions. Do you understand how to calculate surface areas & volumes?

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Worked on our SPACE EXPLORATION magazines.
  • You should be on task 7-8 by now.
  • How is your formatting going?

  • Finished watching Apollo 13, how can you use some of this information in your space magazine? Is the space travel technology in this movie old or new? What types of things have changed since this event took place? Remember it is a true story! It really happened!
  • You should be on tasks 5 & 6 in your space magazine.
ALL THE REST:
  • Dig deep for that final push to the end of the year. You CAN do it.

  • 15 minutes right now could be spent reviewing a subject, that is good independent learning!
