Exam Tips:
  • Get a good night's sleep before the exam.
  • Have a good breakfast the morning of the exam.
  • Bring a bottle of water and a quiet snack with you to the exam.
  • Have all of the materials you need for the exam ready the night before: Pencil, Eraser, CALCULATOR!!
  • Review every day from now until the exam, 15-30 minutes per subject is ideal.
  • Read each question CAREFULLY & choose the BEST answer!
  • Be on time for TA - 925AM in your TA, there is nothing worse than starting your exam with that "rushed" feeling.
  • Breathe.
Remember:
You must have your OWN calculator.

  • Complete sia9 p224 #1-5, p233 #1-8. You do not need to write out the question.

  • I know it is hot and smelly in the classroom - take a shower and wear comfy clothes....sorry that is all we can do for now. Not much longer.....we can do it!

  • Talked about the probablity formula, did some examples.
  • What is a prime number? What is a consonant?
  • Completed questions using the probability formula. Handout 9.4 due Friday.
  • Talked about independent events, did some examples. What are independent events?
  • How do we calculate the probablity of two INDEPENDENT events happening at the same time?
  • Complete Handout 9.5 about independent events, due Monday.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Reviewed the NITROGEN CYCLE - see below.
  • Talked about acids & bases. What is the GREAT function the online textbook has?
  • Did a demonstration of a base neutralizing an acid.
  • Read sia9 p191, 193 (can you figure out figure 1.12?), & 195.
  • Complete the vocabulary for this section.
  • Learned the Acids & Bases song....what a GREAT song! Completed the hand out that goes with it. The lyrics in the song tell you alot of really useful information about acids & bases!
  • Your AD is due Tomorrow.

  • Sports day is on FRIDAY - TOMORROW. Dress appropriately, bring a hat, sunblock, and a bottle of water.

Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Took notes, clarified definitions.
  • What is the NITROGEN CYCLE? What is NITROGEN FIXATION?
  • What is COMBUSTION?
  • What reaction should you commit to memory?
  • You were given 5 factors that affect environmental chemicals, you need to define what they are.
  • Choose one of those factors and create an advertisement that explains HOW & WHY these factors affect chemicals. Due Friday.

  • You don't have alot of homework tonight, you may not have any homework if you used your class time well. Hmmmmmm sounds like there is some time for REVIEW tonight.

  • Wrote our unit final for chapter 7, Shape & Space.
  • Handed in our cheat sheets that we made for our unit final. They are worth marks.
  • If you do not have your own calculator, you had better get one. This has been a course requirement since the begining of the year. I do NOT have any calculators left for you to use.
  • If you try to share a calculator on any test/quiz from now until the end of the year you will receive a zero. You have been warned of this consequence repeatedly.

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Reviewed for our SPACE unit final tomorrow.
  • Worked on our Concept Maps, one for each section in the space unit....you should have 4 maps in total. You will hand these in.
  • DO sia9 p475 #28-34.

  • Got our Space Magazines back. Well done, they will help you study for your unit final!
  • Went over some of the questions from our unit review. Do you have any more questions?
  • Started to make Concept Maps for each sections. We did an example together about space exploration. Four concept/mind maps are due on THURSDAY. You should have one map that represents each section.

  • Worked on our Space Exploration Magazines. They are DUE today for 5 Bonus marks. Monday is the deadline. After Monday there will be late penalties applied to this project.

  • We had an OPEN DAy for Current Events today. Only ONE person was prepared. This is very disappointing. These should be easy marks for you.

  • Had a "fast quiz". Do you UNDERSTAND how to calculate surface area & volume?
  • Do you UNDERSTAND which formulas to use?
  • Worked on our Geo-Communities projects. You should be completed the DATA calculations for PHASE 2. That means ALL of your booklet should be filled out.
  • You need to have your calculations verified/checked by a classmate, who will sign your booklet as a guarantee they are correct.
  • We will begin NET construction on MONDAY. Your completed community will be Due on THURSDAY.
  • Do you know where your money is?
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Worked on our Space exploration magazine.
  • You should be done tasks 8-9, and only have editing and polishing left to do.
  • You were given lots of class time, direction, and resources to complete your project, how close are you to being done? Are you pleased with the product?
  • Your Magazine is due tomorrow. However if you hand it in tomorrow, I will give you 5 bonus marks. If you choose to submit it on Monday I will not consider it late, but you will not be eligible for the bonus marks.

  • The CORRECT formulas were on board today, did you get them copied down? If not get them from a buddy.
  • Are you done your PHASE 2 DATA calculations?
  • You need have your PHASE 2 DATA calculations CHECKED by a classmate BEFORE you begin your net construction. I should see "Checked by", & the name of the person who checked them for you. It should be somebody who is NOT in your group.
  • Net construction should begin on Friday.

Today in MATH we:
  • Finished Phase one of our Geo Communities Projects.
  • Phase 2 Planning is due on FRIDAY at the END of class. I need to see your formulas, dimensions, work, and final calculations. We go 3D on Monday.
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Saw a demonstration with different chemicals and fire. Why were different coloured flames produced? How does this relate to spectral analysis and stars? Think back to light and optics!!
  • You got a take home quiz today. It is due on FRIDAY.
  • We worked on our space exploration magazines. You should be working on tasks 4-5. Aim to have all nine tasks done by Monday, then the rest of your week is editing, formatting, and polishing.
  • REMINDER: Spelling quiz on FRIDAY. 5 words, see yesterday's blog.
ALL THE REST:
  • Be at school on TIME on tomorrow. We leave RIGHT after the bell.
  • Bring a pencil, your calculator, and lunch. An eraser and pencil sharpener may also be good ideas.

  • Got our geo-communities booklets back, what mark did you get? How can you improve it for phase 2?
  • Got our MONEY!! Keep it in a safe place and make sure your names are on the back of it!
  • Got our plots of land.
  • Started to measure and cut out our shapes to put on our plots of land: use your paper WISELY! It all will cost you!
  • Tomorrow you should be ready to glue your shapes down on your plots of land to create a floor plan.
  • Review quiz....hmmmm what a GREAT idea that would be!

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Worked on our Space Exploration Magazines.
  • You should be investigating task 4 by Wednesday.
  • Remember they are due Next Friday. Make yourself a schedule. If you need help with it, see me.

  • Handed in problem of the week #21.
  • Worked on our GeoCommunities project.
  • You should have completed "Phase One" planning. This includes the formula sheet & the 2d planning of your 13 buildings. The Area of your 13 buildings should add up to at least 50% of your total surface area.
  • You should have had a peer check your calculations and handed your booklet in.
  • Monday you get the $$!
Today in SCIENCE we:
  • Handed in our kwl charts.
  • Had a look at how the sun moves accross the landscape & different types of images we can capture by looking from space to Earth.
  • Started planning our Space Exploration magazine. It is due Friday May 8th.
